Cabramatta Railway Station - History

History

The junction has been upgraded in recent years from a low speed one to a medium speed junction with 70 or 80 km/h in all directions. To make the higher speeds possible, the track centres have been widened from 4m at the platforms to about 12m at the diamond crossing at the heart of the junction. Longer switches have also been installed.

The Southern Sydney Freight Line is being constructed on the eastern side of the station. Due to limited space, an overhead concourse was constructed to replace a building on platform 2. The new concourse opened in 2011.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

To a surprising extent the war-lords in shining armour, the apostles of the martial virtues, tend not to die fighting when the time comes. History is full of ignominious getaways by the great and famous.
    George Orwell (1903–1950)

There are two great unknown forces to-day, electricity and woman, but men can reckon much better on electricity than they can on woman.
Josephine K. Henry, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 15, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)

What is most interesting and valuable in it, however, is not the materials for the history of Pontiac, or Braddock, or the Northwest, which it furnishes; not the annals of the country, but the natural facts, or perennials, which are ever without date. When out of history the truth shall be extracted, it will have shed its dates like withered leaves.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
