Positive Train Control
Positive train control systems can be overlaid onto cab signal systems or can replace them altogether. These include the Incremental Train Control System (ITCS) installed by GE on the Chicago-Detroit route in Michigan and the North American Joint Positive Train Control (NAJPTC) system being testing in Illinois on the Chicago-St. Louis route. The ITCS has been in revenue service since 2002 with speeds up to 90 miles per hour (140 km/h). Other systems include Alaska Railroad's CAS, CSX's CBTM, and BNSF's ETMS and V-ETMS manufactured and installed by Wabtec.

Famous quotes containing the words positive, train and/or control:
“I believe, as Maori people do, that children should have more adults in their lives than just their mothers and fathers. Children need more than one or two positive role models. It is in your childrens best interest that you help them cultivate a support system that extends beyond their immediate family.”
—Stephanie Marston (20th century)
“We teach boys to be such men as we are. We do not teach them to aspire to be all they can. We do not give them a training as if we believed in their noble nature. We scarce educate their bodies. We do not train the eye and the hand. We exercise their understandings to the apprehension and comparison of some facts, to a skill in numbers, in words; we aim to make accountants, attorneys, engineers; but not to make able, earnest, great- hearted men.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Knowledge in the form of an informational commodity indispensable to productive power is already, and will continue to be, a majorperhaps the majorstake in the worldwide competition for power. It is conceivable that the nation-states will one day fight for control of information, just as they battled in the past for control over territory, and afterwards for control over access to and exploitation of raw materials and cheap labor.”
—Jean François Lyotard (b. 1924)
