C2-class Melbourne Tram

The C2 class are a group of Citadis trams built by Alstom for the tram network in Mulhouse, France, but which are being leased by Yarra Trams in Melbourne, Australia. The trams are bidirectional and consist of five 100% low floor sections.

The first tram arrived in Melbourne in February 2008 and after the trams had been tested around the network, their official launch was on 26 May 2008. The first unit entered service on the 11 June 2008 with the nickname Bumble Bee 1. The five trams were to be leased until December 2011 through the then Yarra Trams French shareholder Transdev, which operated the Mulhouse tram network at the time. The Mulhouse trams were available for lease because the entire fleet was ordered at once, but the Mulhouse network is being built in stages. The trams are all still in service in Melbourne as of April 2013.

The trams remain in the yellow livery of the Mulhouse system, but have been renumbered and have had Yarra Trams logos added to them. The trams operate exclusively on the Route 96 (East Brunswick-St Kilda Beach) service.
