Famous quotes containing the words byron and/or black:

It will be difficult for me not to make sport for the Philistines by pulling down a house or two, since when I once take pen in hand, I must say what comes uppermost, or fling it away.
    —George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

Winter lies too long in country towns; hangs on until it is stale and shabby, old and sullen. But in Black Hawk the scene of human life was spread out shrunken and pinched, frozen down to the bare stalk.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
