Uniform
Bushey Meads School operates a very strict uniform policy, stating on their website, "Please note that non-uniform items will be confiscated and kept in the school office until the end of the school day." The stated aims of the policy are discipline and hiding differences in family wealth.
The uniform is relatively inexpensive, consisting of:
- green or white polo shirt, with school logo,
- green sweatshirt with school logo,
- black or charcoal grey plain trousers or (for girls) plain unpleated skirt,
- black or dark brown shoes.
Jewellery (other than one pair of simple studs for pierced ears) is forbidden.

Famous quotes containing the word uniform:
“Odors from decaying food wafting through the air when the door is opened, colorful mold growing between a wet gym uniform and the damp carpet underneath, and the complete supply of bath towels scattered throughout the bedroom can become wonderful opportunities to help your teenager learn once again that the art of living in a community requires compromise, negotiation, and consensus.”
—Barbara Coloroso (20th century)
“The maples
Stood uniform in buckets, and the steam
Of sap and snow rolled off the sugarhouse.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
“Iconic clothing has been secularized.... A guardsman in a dress uniform is ostensibly an icon of aggression; his coat is red as the blood he hopes to shed. Seen on a coat-hanger, with no man inside it, the uniform loses all its blustering significance and, to the innocent eye seduced by decorative colour and tactile braid, it is as abstract in symbolic information as a parasol to an Eskimo. It becomes simply magnificent.”
—Angela Carter (19401992)
