Burger Chef - Collectible Store Fixtures, Promotional Materials, and Prizes

Collectible Store Fixtures, Promotional Materials, and Prizes

Even though the restaurants are gone, memorabilia collectors are snapping up Burger Chef merchandise, often traded in online auctions. Among the most expensive items are Burger Chef glass light globes that were once hanging above the dining room tables in the '60s and '70s. The distinctive design is a white glass polyhedron with colored triangles affixed to each side. The triangles are orange and aqua, matching the colors of the original logo. Burger Chef wren houses are also selling for top dollar. Those are a kit that was sold at the front counter. The flat packaged kit consisted of an instruction sheet and enough pieces of wood and leather fastening ties to construct a wren bird house that could be hung up outdoors. Vintage napkin holders have also been seen at auctions, featuring the stamped chrome Burger Chef logo. One version has the old happyface logo, while the other has the more modern stylized chef's hat logo. Somewhat easier to find are the chain's version of baseball cards, which were round and could be punched out of special Funmeal trays.

Famous quotes containing the words store and/or prizes:

The first general store opened on the ‘Cold Saturday’ of the winter of 1833 ... Mrs. Mary Miller, daughter of the store’s promoter, recorded in a letter: ‘Chickens and birds fell dead from their roosts, cows ran bellowing through the streets’; but she failed to state what effect the freeze had on the gala occasion of the store opening.
—Administration in the State of Sout, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

She prizes not such trifles as these are.
The gifts she looks from me are packed and locked
Up in my heart, which I have given already,
    But not delivered.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
