Critical Values and Interpretation
There is no exact interpretation of BRN values but, in general, for a BRN less than 10, vertical shear dominates over buoyancy and the storm will likely be eviscerated by the shear. For BRN values between 10 and 45, the shear tends to balance the buoyancy favoring strong convective supercells. A BRN larger than 40 supports ordinary cell or multicell convective storms but due to updraft tilt stemming from the lack of shear, supercells are not likely to be observed.

Famous quotes containing the words critical and/or values:
“A third variety of drama ... begins as tragedy with scraps of fun in it ... and ends in comedy without mirth in it, the place of mirth being taken by a more or less bitter and critical irony.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
“With the breakdown of the traditional institutions which convey values, more of the burdens and responsibility for transmitting values fall upon parental shoulders, and it is getting harder all the time both to embody the virtues we hope to teach our children and to find for ourselves the ideals and values that will give our own lives purpose and direction.”
—Neil Kurshan (20th century)
