Buffalo Trace (road) - Present Day

Present Day

U.S. Route 150 from Vincennes to New Albany, Indiana, follows the path of the Trace. A large section of the original Trace can be seen south of French Lick in Orange County, Indiana, along the Springs Valley Trail System. In 2009 a section of U.S. Route 150 and the Buffalo Trace became part of the Indiana Historic Pathways, a National Scenic Byway, that crosses southern Indiana. In total, driving U.S. Route 150 to coincide with the Buffalo Trace is a distance of 112 miles (180 km).

Parts of the Trace are now protected, including sections in the Hoosier National Forest and a small tract within Buffalo Trace Park, a preserve maintained by Harrison County, Indiana.

Famous quotes containing the words present and/or day:

I can’t earn my own living. I could never make anything turn into money. It’s like making fires. A careful assortment of paper, shavings, faggots and kindling nicely tipped with pitch will never light for me. I have never been present when a cigarette butt, extinct, thrown into a damp and isolated spot, started a conflagration in the California woods.
    Margaret Anderson (1886–1973)

We went on, feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the soldier, binding up his wounds, harboring the stranger, visiting the sick, ministering to the prisoner, and burying the dead, until that blessed day at Appomattox Court House relieved the strain.
    M. E. W. Sherwood (1826–1903)
