Buffalo Academy For Visual And Performing Arts

The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, also known as BAVPA, is a magnet performing arts high school and part of Buffalo's public school system. The current principal is Ms. Jody Covington, and the current assistant principals are Dr. Eileen Czarnecki and Mr. Jonathan Welka.

The school holds classes from grade 5 to 12 and requires students to apply (as if for a job) in the field of their desired "major concentration". Majors taught in the school are Visual Art, Television and Film Production, Dance, Theater, and Music (vocal or instrumental).

Usually near the end of the school year, the TV/Film Production Department has a film festival at Delaware Park. The film festival shows the work the TV/Film Production students have throughout the year.

Famous quotes containing the words performing arts, buffalo, academy, visual, performing and/or arts:

More than in any other performing arts the lack of respect for acting seems to spring from the fact that every layman considers himself a valid critic.
    Uta Hagen (b. 1919)

As I started with her out of the city warmly enveloped in buffalo furs, I could not but think how nice it would be to drive on and on, so that nobody should ever catch us.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)

When the State wishes to endow an academy or university, it grants it a tract of forest land: one saw represents an academy, a gang, a university.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

For women ... bras, panties, bathing suits, and other stereotypical gear are visual reminders of a commercial, idealized feminine image that our real and diverse female bodies can’t possibly fit. Without these visual references, each individual woman’s body demands to be accepted on its own terms. We stop being comparatives. We begin to be unique.
    Gloria Steinem (b. 1934)

And no one, it seemed, had had the presence of mind
To initiate proceedings or stop the wheel
From the number it was backing away from as it stopped:
It was performing prettily; the puncture stayed unseen....
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

When tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of human civilization.
    Daniel Webster (1782–1852)
