Bud Riley - Personal

Personal

Bud and his wife Mary had three sons: Mike (b.1953), Ed (b.1958), and Pete (b.1964). Mike spent his junior high and high school years in Corvallis and was midway through college at Alabama when Bud left OSU and became a nomadic coach in the CFL in 1973. The younger sons, specifically Pete, attended many different schools, primarily in Canada, in the 1970s and early 1980s (both went to four high schools, in a different city each year). Ed spent his senior year at Gonzaga Prep in Spokane, and then went to Whitworth College.

Bud's brother Hayden was the head basketball coach at Alabama (1960–68), and later was the head baseball coach of the Tide in the 1970s.

Riley died near his home in Penticton, British Columbia on August 4, 2012.

Famous quotes containing the word personal:

... religion can only change when the emotions which fill it are changed; and the religion of personal fear remains nearly at the level of the savage.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)

The secret point of money and power in America is neither the things that money can buy nor power for power’s sake ... but absolute personal freedom, mobility, privacy. It is the instinct which drove America to the Pacific, all through the nineteenth century, the desire to be able to find a restaurant open in case you want a sandwich, to be a free agent, live by one’s own rules.
    Joan Didion (b. 1934)

Perspective, as its inventor remarked, is a beautiful thing. What horrors of damp huts, where human beings languish, may not become picturesque through aerial distance! What hymning of cancerous vices may we not languish over as sublimest art in the safe remoteness of a strange language and artificial phrase! Yet we keep a repugnance to rheumatism and other painful effects when presented in our personal experience.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
