Early Life
Stair was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was ordained a Methodist minister, but left organized religion, stating "I just call myself a Christian." Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:
“I do not know that I meet, in any of my Walks, Objects which move both my Spleen and Laughter so effectually, as those Young Fellows ... who rise early for no other Purpose but to publish their Laziness.”
—Richard Steele (16721729)
“Had I but died an hour before this chance,
I had lived a blessed time; for from this instant
Theres nothing serious in mortality.
All is but toys; renown and grace is dead,
The wine of life is drawn, and the mere lees
Is left this vault to brag of.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
