Guiding Ethos
The mission of the British Red Cross is "Caring for People in Crisis", which is the core aim of every part of the charity. In fulfilling this mission, all volunteers and staff must abide by the seven fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which are:
- Humanity
- Impartiality
- Neutrality
- Independence
- Voluntary Service
- Unity
- Universality
The British Red Cross also has four values, which guide the way they work. These are:
- Compassionate
- Inclusive
- Dynamic
- Courageous

Famous quotes containing the words guiding and/or ethos:
“Parents must not only have certain ways of guiding by prohibition and permission; they must also be able to represent to the child a deep, an almost somatic conviction that there is a meaning to what they are doing. Ultimately, children become neurotic not from frustrations, but from the lack or loss of societal meaning in these frustrations.”
—Erik H. Erikson (20th century)
“Reading more than life teaches us to recognize ethos and pathos.”
—Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
