Preservation
Somewhat surprisingly, five units, representing half the class, have been preserved on heritage railways. Two of the units in question were donated by Porterbrook Leasing in 2003 to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Derbyshire who now use one as a buffet car and the other a museum. A third unit, 489108 was bought by a Private owner for preservation at Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre. It was sent for scrap in May 2009, being the second GLV to be scrapped. The final two units in use with Gatwick Express were preserved in early-2006.

Famous quotes containing the word preservation:
“There is something to be said for jealousy, because it only designs the preservation of some good which we either have or think we have a right to. But envy is a raging madness that cannot bear the wealth or fortune of others.”
—François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (16131680)
“The bourgeois treasures nothing more highly than the self.... And so at the cost of intensity he achieves his own preservation and security. His harvest is a quiet mind which he prefers to being possessed by God, as he prefers comfort to pleasure, convenience to liberty, and a pleasant temperature to that deathly inner consuming fire.”
—Hermann Hesse (18771962)
“It is my hope to be able to prove that television is the greatest step forward we have yet made in the preservation of humanity. It will make of this Earth the paradise we have all envisioned, but have never seen.”
—Joseph ODonnell. Clifford Sanforth. Professor James Houghland, Murder by Television, just before he demonstrates his new television device (1935)
