Reign
According to the Puranas, Brihadratha succeeded Ĺšatadhanvan and he ruled for seven years. Mauryan territories, centered around the capital of Pataliputra, had shrunk considerably from the time of the great Emperor Ashoka when Brihadratha came to the throne.
