Famous quotes containing the words oliver cromwell, standard, class and/or cromwell:

I would rather have a plain, russet-coated captain, that knows what he fights for, and loves what he knows, than that which you call “a gentleman” and is nothing else.
    Oliver Cromwell (1599–1658)

Society’s double behavioral standard for women and for men is, in fact, a more effective deterrent than economic discrimination because it is more insidious, less tangible. Economic disadvantages involve ascertainable amounts, but the very nature of societal value judgments makes them harder to define, their effects harder to relate.
    Anne Tucker (b. 1945)

I know no East or West, North or South, when it comes to my class fighting the battle for justice. If it is my fortune to live to see the industrial chain broken from every workingman’s child in America, and if then there is one black child in Africa in bondage, there shall I go.
    Mother Jones (1830–1930)

A few honest men are better than numbers.
    —Oliver Cromwell (1599–1658)
