The Boyne River Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in County Meath, Ireland. It spans the Boyne River 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of Drogheda on the county boundary between County Meath and County Louth and is part of the M1 Northern Motorway. (It was the longest such bridge in Ireland until 19 October 2009, when the River Suir Bridge opened on the N25.) Due to environmental concerns, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was carried out for the bridge separately from the M1 EIS -- the first such formal EIS carried out and published for a bridge in Ireland. In 2006 the bridge won the Excellence Award (Civil) from the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland. The bridge was built from 2000 to 2003 and was designed by Roughan and O’Donovan, who were awarded the ACEI Presidential Award in 2005 for the design.

Famous quotes containing the words river and/or bridge:
“My favorite figure of the American author is that of a man who breeds a favorite dog, which he throws into the Mississippi River for the pleasure of making a splash. The river does not splash, but it drowns the dog.”

“I was at work that morning. Someone came riding like mad
Over the bridge and up the roadFarmer Roufs little lad.
Bareback he rode; he had no hat; he hardly stopped to say,
Morgans men are coming, Frau, theyre galloping on this way.”
—Constance Fenimore Woolson (18401894)
