Botad - Sports

Sports

Cricket is the passion for people of Botad. Mostly is it played by Tennis ball nowadays. During '70-'80, Botad used to host cricket tournaments using real leather ball in which teams from all nearby cities/towns like Jasadan, Lathi, Bhavanagar (small princely states) used to participate. Those were the real glory days of cricket in Botad.

There are no sport facilities (stadiums, sport complexes etc.) in Botad and sports remains in its preliminary form.

There are quite a few other popular seasonal sports/games mainly for children under 10 that are famous in Botad like Moy-Dandiya (a.k.a. Gili-Danda), Marbles, Kabbaddi (Hu-tu tu) etc.

Famous quotes containing the word sports:

    Sweet smiling village, loveliest of the lawn,
    Thy sports are fled and all thy charms withdrawn;
    Amidst thy bowers the tyrant’s hand is seen,
    And desolation saddens all thy green;
    One only master grasps the whole domain,
    And half a tillage stints thy smiling plain;
    Oliver Goldsmith (1730?–1774)

    I looked so much like a guy you couldn’t tell if I was a boy or a girl. I had no hair, I wore guys’ clothes, I walked like a guy ... [ellipsis in source] I didn’t do anything right except sports. I was a social dropout, but sports was a way I could be acceptable to other kids and to my family.
    Karen Logan (b. 1949)

    In the end, I think you really only get as far as you’re allowed to get.
    Gayle Gardner, U.S. sports reporter. As quoted in Sports Illustrated, p. 87 (June 17, 1991)
