Famous quotes containing the words boston, college, men and/or ice:

If thou fill thy brain with Boston and New York, with fashion and covetousness, and wilt stimulate thy jaded senses with wine and French coffee, thou shalt find no radiance of wisdom in the lonely waste of the pinewoods.

A college of wit-crackers cannot flout me out of my humor. Dost thou think I care for a satire or an epigram?
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

People talk about the courage of condemned men walking to the place of execution: sometimes it needs as much courage to walk with any kind of bearing towards another person’s habitual misery.
    Graham Greene (1904–1991)

Like the water, the Walden ice, seen near at hand, has a green tint, but at a distance is beautifully blue, and you can easily tell it from the white ice of the river, or the merely greenish ice of some ponds, a quarter of a mile off.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
