Boston Archdiocesan Choir School - Students and Faculty

Students and Faculty

The student enrollment at the Choir School is approximately 55. New students are accepted in grade 4, based on the results of a vocal audition and a written academic exam. Students commute to Harvard Square from various cities and towns throughout the greater Boston area, sometimes traveling more than an hour each way. Most students at the Choir School are Roman Catholic and many have previously attended parochial schools, but there are also non-Catholic students.

The administration and faculty include the Pastor, Headmaster, Director of Music, Assistant Organist, academic faculty and several piano teachers. The current Director of Music of the Choir School and St. Paul's Church, John Robinson, was appointed in 2010. He previously served as Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral and Organist at The King's School, Canterbury.

Famous quotes containing the words students and/or faculty:

The fetish of the great university, of expensive colleges for young women, is too often simply a fetish. It is not based on a genuine desire for learning. Education today need not be sought at any great distance. It is largely compounded of two things, of a certain snobbishness on the part of parents, and of escape from home on the part of youth. And to those who must earn quickly it is often sheer waste of time. Very few colleges prepare their students for any special work.
    Mary Roberts Rinehart (1876–1958)

UG [universal grammar] may be regarded as a characterization of the genetically determined language faculty. One may think of this faculty as a ‘language acquisition device,’ an innate component of the human mind that yields a particular language through interaction with present experience, a device that converts experience into a system of knowledge attained: knowledge of one or another language.
    Noam Chomsky (b. 1928)
