Border Pipes - Border Pipe Repertoire

Border Pipe Repertoire

There is a distinct body of music for the instrument - many of these tunes survived in the fiddle and Northumbrian smallpipe repertoire after the playing of Border pipes died out in the mid-19th century. Others survive in manuscript sources from the 18th and 19th century.

Famous quotes containing the words border, pipe and/or repertoire:

Swift while the woof is whole,
    turn now my spirit, swift,
    and tear the pattern there,
    the flowers so deftly wrought,
    the border of sea-blue,
    the sea-blue coast of home.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

When you can pipe that merry old strain,
Robert of Lincoln, come back again.
    William Cullen Bryant (1794–1878)

For good teaching rests neither in accumulating a shelfful of knowledge nor in developing a repertoire of skills. In the end, good teaching lies in a willingness to attend and care for what happens in our students, ourselves, and the space between us. Good teaching is a certain kind of stance, I think. It is a stance of receptivity, of attunement, of listening.
    Laurent A. Daloz (20th century)
