Bonneville Environmental Foundation - History and Mission

History and Mission

The Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), a Portland, Oregon-based nonprofit organization, believes that climate change and degradation of world freshwater resources are two of the primary threats facing communities around the globe. These are complex and interrelated issues that require innovative solutions. BEF addresses these issues with coordinated watershed and renewable energy programs. BEF believes that solutions to energy, climate, and water resource challenges require sustained efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuel-based energy sources and to restore degraded watershed ecosystems. To this end, BEF sponsors programs that aim to simultaneously a) restore watershed ecosystems, b) educate students about renewable energy and conservation, and c) expand the generation of clean renewable energy. By integrating these three program areas, BEF is proactively addressing the fundamental ecological challenges of this century.

Famous quotes containing the words history and, history and/or mission:

The basic idea which runs right through modern history and modern liberalism is that the public has got to be marginalized. The general public are viewed as no more than ignorant and meddlesome outsiders, a bewildered herd.
    Noam Chomsky (b. 1928)

All objects, all phases of culture are alive. They have voices. They speak of their history and interrelatedness. And they are all talking at once!
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)

... [a] girl one day flared out and told the principal “the only mission opening before a girl in his school was to marry one of those candidates [for the ministry].” He said he didn’t know but it was. And when at last that same girl announced her desire and intention to go to college it was received with about the same incredulity and dismay as if a brass button on one of those candidate’s coats had propounded a new method for squaring the circle or trisecting the arc.
    Anna Julia Cooper (1859–1964)
