Board of Temperance Strategy

The Anti-Saloon League launched the Board of Temperance Strategy to coordinate resistance to the growing public demand for the repeal of prohibition (1920–1933) that was occurring in the U.S. in the early 1930s.

The Board of Temperance Strategy consisted of representatives from 33 major anti-alcohol or temperance organizations. The effort failed and the national prohibition of alcohol was repealed in December 1933.

Famous quotes containing the words board, temperance and/or strategy:

This morning I threw up at a board meeting. I was sure the cat was out of the bag, but no one seemed to think anything about it; apparently it’s quite common for people to throw up at board meetings.
    Jane Wagner (b. 1935)

No temperance society which is well officered and which has the real good of our fellow-men in view, will ever get drunk save in the seclusion of its temperance hall.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

Our strategy in going after this army is very simple. First we are going to cut it off, and then we are going to kill it.
    Colin Powell (b. 1937)
