BMW 3 Series (E30) - Top Gear Appearance

Top Gear Appearance

The episode aired 13 February 2011 contained a challenge for a 4-seat convertible costing under 2000 pounds. All 3 presenters purchased E30 325i convertibles. Aftermarket modifications to the cars included Clarkson's car (the only fitted with an automatic gearbox) having a paving slab in the boot to improve handling, and Hammond's car (which handled the worst of the 3 cars) having aftermarket wheels and lowered suspension.

Famous quotes containing the words top, gear and/or appearance:

... when you make it a moral necessity for the young to dabble in all the subjects that the books on the top shelf are written about, you kill two very large birds with one stone: you satisfy precious curiosities, and you make them believe that they know as much about life as people who really know something. If college boys are solemnly advised to listen to lectures on prostitution, they will listen; and who is to blame if some time, in a less moral moment, they profit by their information?
    Katharine Fullerton Gerould (1879–1944)

For women ... bras, panties, bathing suits, and other stereotypical gear are visual reminders of a commercial, idealized feminine image that our real and diverse female bodies can’t possibly fit. Without these visual references, each individual woman’s body demands to be accepted on its own terms. We stop being comparatives. We begin to be unique.
    Gloria Steinem (b. 1934)

The complaint ... about modern steel furniture, modern glass houses, modern red bars and modern streamlined trains and cars is that all these objets modernes, while adequate and amusing in themselves, tend to make the people who use them look dated. It is an honest criticism. The human race has done nothing much about changing its own appearance to conform to the form and texture of its appurtenances.
