Bluntnose Sixgill Shark - Feeding Patterns

Feeding Patterns

Although sluggish in nature, the bluntnose sixgill shark is capable of attaining high speeds for chasing and catching its prey. Because of the bluntnose sixgill shark's large and diverse range they have a wide variety of prey items. Their diet consists of a variety of mollusks, crustaceans, and Agnathans (hagfish and sea lampreys). They also dine on Cape anchovies, Pacific salmon, various species of hake. There are also many more species that are eaten depending upon the shark's home range. In BBC's The Blue Planet, this shark was filmed eating a dead tuna.

Famous quotes containing the words feeding and/or patterns:

Man may have his opinion as to the relative importance of feeding his body and nourishing his soul, but he is allowed by Nature to have no opinion whatever as to the need for feeding the body before the soul can think of anything but the body’s hunger.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

I’ve begun to appreciate the generational patterns that ripple out from our lives like stones dropped in water, pulsing outward even after we are gone. Although we have but one childhood, we relive it first through our children’s and then our grandchildren’s eyes.
    Anne Cassidy (20th century)
