Stretching invisibly into the future so as to reappear
In our present. Its flexing is its account,
Return to the point of no return.”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
“What seems to us serious, significant and important will, in future times, be forgotten or won’t seem important at all.”
—Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)
