Bloomingdale High School - Athletics

Athletics

Sports offered include football, soccer, baseball, softball, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, swimming, flag football, and track and field, along with club teams for ice hockey, lacrosse, and bowling. Boys' sports teams are called the Bloomingdale Bulls, and girls' sports teams are called the Bloomingdale Lady Bulls.
Led by Coach Dave Tennian, the boys' soccer team was voted The Tampa Tribune's Team of the Decade for the '90's, winning state championships in '93, '95, and '98. 1993 Team voted the best team in the history of High School Sports by ESPN, USA Today and Florida Sports Hall of Fame. Led season long by a hard hitting defense and strong goalkeeping the 1993 Bulls gave Bloomingdale the first State Champion for the school. The six overtime 1993 State Championship game stands to this day as a record for overtimes in a State Title game. They were ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/USA Today Top Ten poll in '93, '95, '98 and '99. During the regular season of 2004, they were ranked No. 1 before losing to the Miami Sunset.
Emily Janss, who played for the women's soccer team went on to star with the New York Power of the WUSA, starred for the Lady Bulls in the 90's. The women's team won a state title in 2001.
The cheerleading squad has won several titles, including state champions in 2008 and 2009 and is striving for their third year victory. They went to states for the first time in the 2007-2008 school year and won first place.
The football team is below par, usually losing all but perchance three games. Chad Bratzke is the only B'Dale football player to play in the NFL, primarily with the Indianapolis Colts. After coach Corey Brinson's resignation after the final game of the 2007 football season, Bloomingdale hired Jason Stokes as the new head football coach. After hiring the new coach, Bloomingdale ended their losing streak and qualified for the playoffs, for the first time in the school's history. Coach Stokes resigned at the end of the 2008 football season because he wanted to "to be at a city school because that's where I'm from". Jason Stokes is set to coach Middleton high in the 2009-2010 football season. John Booth has been hired as Bloomingdale's new football head coach.
