Personality
Blart is very lazy and is very stubborn when it comes to work, unless it involves pigs. His stubbornness is a constant annoyance to the company and a serious casualty on the quest. Blart is also a coward though, and will probably admit to anything if threatened. He would even betray his friends for his own life. He is not very resilient and moans in desperation when times of danger or hardship arise. He also gets hungry easily and moans if it is not tended to. However he is so desperate to live that he has been able to run without stopping even outrunning death the horseman who does not get tired.
Blarts holds a special bond with pigs, particularly his grandfather's prize pigs Wattle and Daub. When living with his grandfather he spent most of his time with the pigs. They were his only friends and he regards them above humans. He sometimes wishes he was a pig, as seen when Capablanca threatens to turn him into one and he is excited about the idea. He seems upset when he is told that Wattle and Daub are killed. At one point in the book he fantasizes about owning a kingdom of pigs.

“It is remarkable that almost all speakers and writers feel it to be incumbent on them, sooner or later, to prove or acknowledge the personality of God. Some Earl of Bridgewater, thinking it better late than never, has provided for it in his will. It is a sad mistake.”
