Blake served in the Army during World War 2. He mentions in a Season 1 episode that he was a part of the Normandy landings on D-Day.

He worked as an oil rigger by day and went to the School of Mines at night.

In 1964, he was injured in an oil rig explosion in Denver.

In 1965, he lost his temper when discovering his wife, Alexis, with one of the Carrington staff, Roger Grimes, and had her signs and leave town.
