Black Sabbath Discography

The discography of Black Sabbath, a heavy metal band from Birmingham, UK, consists of 18 studio albums, 5 live albums, 26 singles, and 8 video albums. This list does not include solo material released by members of Black Sabbath or the related group Heaven & Hell.

The band was formed in 1969 by Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (electric guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass guitar), and Bill Ward (drums). The band has since experienced multiple lineup changes. Though the last line-up of the band to work together were Ronnie James Dio, Vinny Appice, Iommi and Butler, for three new songs for a compilation in 2007, the original line-up is still considered the "current" lineup and has been since their reunion in 1997. The 2007 sessions were deemed a one-off which led to the Heaven and Hell side project, resulting in a new studio album in 2009 entitled 'The Devil You Know'. In November 2011 the original lineup announced plans to record a new studio album together; their first since 1978.

Famous quotes containing the words black and/or sabbath:

We have what I would call educational genocide. I’m concerned about learning totally, but I’m immersed in the disastrous record of how many black kids are going into science. They are very few and far between. I’ve said that when I see more black students in the laboratories than I see on the football field, I’ll be happy.
    Jewel Plummer Cobb (b. 1924)

My paternal grandmother would not light a fire on the Sabbath and piled all Sunday’s washing-up in a bucket, to be dealt with on Monday morning, because the Sabbath was a day of rest—a practice that made my paternal grandfather, the village atheist, as mad as fire. Nevertheless, he willed five quid to the minister, just to be on the safe side.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)
