Common Displays of Bisexual Erasure
Both gay and straight people who engage in bisexual erasure may claim that bisexuals are actually closeted homosexual people who wish to appear heterosexual, or conversely that bisexuals are heterosexuals who are experimenting with their sexuality.
A common manifestation of bisexual erasure is a tendency for bisexuals to be referred to as heterosexual when they are intimately involved with people of the opposite sex, and to be labeled as homosexual when they are involved with people of the same sex.

Famous quotes containing the words common and/or displays:
“This very Rome that we behold deserves our love ...: the only common and universal city.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
“The emancipation of today displays itself mainly in cigarettes and shorts. There is even a reaction from the ideal of an intellectual and emancipated womanhood, for which the pioneers toiled and suffered, to be seen in painted lips and nails, and the return of trailing skirts and other absurdities of dress which betoken the slave-womans intelligent companionship.”
—Sylvia Pankhurst (18821960)
