Comorbid Conditions
The diagnosis of bipolar disorder can be complicated by coexisting (comorbid) psychiatric conditions such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, social phobia, panic disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Substance abuse may predate the appearance of bipolar symptoms, further complicating the diagnosis.
