Billiard Table - Pool Tables

Pool Tables

A pool table, or pocket billiards table (as the sport's governing body prefers to call it), has six pockets – one at each corner of the table (corner pockets) and one at the midpoint of each of the longer sides (side pockets or middle pockets). Historically, as old engravings show, tables sometimes used to be made with only four pockets, but the rest of this section addresses six-pocket pool tables.

Famous quotes containing the words pool and/or tables:

    I’ th’ world’s volume
    Our Britain seems as of it, but not in’ t;
    In a great pool a swan’s nest.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    The word unto the prophet spoken
    Was writ on tables yet unbroken;
    The word by seers or sibyls told,
    In groves of oak, or fanes of gold,
    Still floats upon the morning wind,
    Still whispers to the willing mind.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
