Bill Veitch - End of Parliamentary Career and Later Years

End of Parliamentary Career and Later Years

In 1935, when Albert Davy launched the "anti-socialist" Democrat Party, Veitch joined it, but was defeated in his re-election bid by the Labour candidate. Considerably later, in 1943, Veitch stood for the National Party (the ultimate outcome of the United-Reform coalition) in a Wellington electorate, but was unsuccessful. He was awarded the 1937 Coronation Medal for services to New Zealand (NZ Roll of Honour, p. 1095).

Veitch died in Paraparaumu in 1961.

Famous quotes containing the words career and/or years:

A black boxer’s career is the perfect metaphor for the career of a black male. Every day is like being in the gym, sparring with impersonal opponents as one faces the rudeness and hostility that a black male must confront in the United States, where he is the object of both fear and fascination.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)

Early education can only promise to help make the third and fourth and fifth years of life good ones. It cannot insure without fail that any tomorrow will be successful. Nothing “fixes” a child for life, no matter what happens next. But exciting, pleasing early experiences are seldom sloughed off. They go with the child, on into first grade, on into the child’s long life ahead.
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)
