Big Y - Expansion

Expansion

In 2010, Big Y announced that its expansion included Lee, Franklin, and Milford, Massachusetts; according to its website, each town would have a store by 2012. The Lee store opened in November 2011; while the Franklin store opened in August 2012, the chain's newest location. During 2011 Big Y also announced a new store in Foxborough, expanding into the Greater Boston area, but plans for that location have been postponed.

While Big Y has stores near the New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont borders, expansion into these states has not been announced.

In late 2010, Big Y purchased seven stores from A&P, which was abandoning central Connecticut. Four of these (Branford, Mystic, Old Lyme, West Hartford) were re-opened as Big Y World Class Markets, bringing Big Y's Connecticut store count at the time to 28. Another Big Y opened in Meriden, Connecticut in August 2011.

Famous quotes containing the word expansion:

We are caught up Mr. Perry on a great wave whether we will or no, a great wave of expansion and progress. All these mechanical inventions—telephones, electricity, steel bridges, horseless vehicles—they are all leading somewhere. It’s up to us to be on the inside in the forefront of progress.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

Every expansion of government in business means that government in order to protect itself from the political consequences of its errors and wrongs is driven irresistibly without peace to greater and greater control of the nation’s press and platform. Free speech does not live many hours after free industry and free commerce die.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)

Artistic genius is an expansion of monkey imitativeness.
    W. Winwood Reade (1838–1875)
