The Big South sponsors intercollegiate competition in men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's soccer, women's softball, men's and women's tennis, women's volleyball, and women's lacrosse. The most recent addition was women's lacrosse, added for the 2012-13 academic year.
The Big South is the only collegiate athletic conference to sponsor a quizbowl competition, starting this in 2006, and using questions from National Academic Quiz Tournaments.
