Big Boss (Metal Gear)

Big Boss (Japanese: ビッグ・ボス, Hepburn: Biggu Bosu?) is a fictional character from Konami's Metal Gear series. He is first introduced in the original Metal Gear as the commanding officer of protagonist Solid Snake, only to be revealed as the leader of the enemy forces as well, a role he would resume in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Big Boss also appears as the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid prequels beginning with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater where he is depicted as an American covert operative codenamed Naked Snake (ネイキッド・スネーク, Neikiddo Sunēku?).

As Naked Snake, he is voiced by Akio Ōtsuka in the Japanese releases and David Hayter in the English releases. In his appearance in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Big Boss was voiced by Chikao Ōtsuka (the real-life father of Akio Ōtsuka) in the Japanese version and Richard Doyle in the English version. The character of Big Boss has been praised by video game publications for his role as a villain as well for his relationship with Solid Snake while the debut of Naked Snake as player character resulted in multiple speculations regarding his true identity as a result of his physical similarities with Solid Snake.

Famous quotes containing the words big and/or boss:

    But I died yesterday,
    “Daddy,” I died,
    swallowing the Nazi-Jap-animal
    and it won’t get out
it keeps knocking at my eyes,
    my big orphan eyes....
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

I have given my pain a name and call it “dog”Mit is every bit as faithful, every bit as nosey and shameless, every bit as entertaining, every bit as clever as any other dog—and I can boss it around and vent my bad moods on it, just as others do with their dogs, servants, and wives.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
