Bhor Ghat - Ancient Trade Route

Ancient Trade Route

Bhor Ghat was an important trade route in the past and was one of the three main ghats (mountain passes) developed by the Satavahanas to move the goods from the merchant ships from Syria and Egypt to their capital Paithan. The ports of Karanja and Rajapuri were connected to the ghat.

Famous quotes containing the words ancient, trade and/or route:

He stood bewildered, not appalled, on that dark shore which separates the ancient and the modern world.... He is power, passion, self-will personified.
    William Hazlitt (1778–1830)

The glory of the farmer is that, in the division of labors, it is his part to create. All trade rests at last on his primitive activity.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

A route differs from a road not only because it is solely intended for vehicles, but also because it is merely a line that connects one point with another. A route has no meaning in itself; its meaning derives entirely from the two points that it connects. A road is a tribute to space. Every stretch of road has meaning in itself and invites us to stop. A route is the triumphant devaluation of space, which thanks to it has been reduced to a mere obstacle to human movement and a waste of time.
    Milan Kundera (b. 1929)
