Beyond The Veil (book)

Beyond the Veil by Fatima Mernissi is a book about gender dynamics in a modern Muslim society. It was first published by Schenkman Publishing Co. in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1975 but has not been in print since 1981. (ISBN 0-470-59612-0)

This is a book exploring how Islam treats women as equals to men and respects them. It also shows the importance of the veil, or hijab.

Famous quotes containing the word veil:

But when the self speaks to the self, who is speaking?—the entombed soul, the spirit driven in, in, in to the central catacomb; the self that took the veil and left the world—a coward perhaps, yet somehow beautiful, as it flits with its lantern restlessly up and down the dark corridors.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
