Beverly D. Stakes

The Beverly D. Stakes is a Grade 1 flat horse race in the United States for thoroughbred fillies and mares aged three-years-old and upward.

The Beverly D. Stakes is the fillies' counterpart of the Arlington Million and is raced on the same day and on the same turf course at Arlington Park, Arlington Heights, Illinois in August. The race carries a purse of $750,000. The distance is 1³/ miles (approximately 1,900 metres).

Part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, the winner of the 2008 Beverly D. Stakes automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

The race was first run in 1987, but was not run the following season due to refurbishment at Arlington Park. It was also not run in 1998/99 as the track was closed during this time.

Famous quotes containing the word stakes:

This man was very clever and quick to learn anything in his line. Our tent was of a kind new to him; but when he had once seen it pitched, it was surprising how quickly he would find and prepare the pole and forked stakes to pitch it with, cutting and placing them right the first time, though I am sure that the majority of white men would have blundered several times.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
