History
Bessarion opened in 2002, in the first phase of the Sheppard line. The station is one of the stations originally planned for the Sheppard line. Due to budget overruns during which had come up on several occasions there were many suggestions to remove it from the original plan. When the question was raised a last time in 1998, it was finally decided that the station should be built, because it was in a prime redevelopment area as an important selling feature for these housing units.
When the site was excavated the soil was found to be contaminated with various levels of hydrocarbons. This was removed and decontaminated during the construction of the subway station.
As of the late 2000s, Concord Park Place, a 45-acre (18 ha), master-planned multi-tower condominium and townhouse complex is under construction, on the former Canadian Tire warehouse site that adjoins the subway station.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by handa center of gravity.”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
“All history becomes subjective; in other words there is properly no history, only biography.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“I assure you that in our next class we will concern ourselves solely with the history of Egypt, and not with the more lurid and non-curricular subject of living mummies.”
—Griffin Jay, and Reginald LeBorg. Prof. Norman (Frank Reicher)
