Bernice MacNaughton High School was named after Dr. L. Bernice MacNaughton, a Moncton teacher.
Bernice MacNaughton High School is also unofficially known as Bernice MacNaughton, MacNaughton and Bernie Mac. Its sports teams have often been referred to as "the Mean Green", "the Green Machine", "the Fight Club" (stemming from the school's "Fight Song") and "the Green Monster", and its students as "Green Monsters", after students coined the catch phrase in 2001.
