The Beni River (in Spanish Río Beni) is a river in the north of Bolivia.
It rises north of La Paz and flows northeast through the pampas. Its most important tributary is the Madre de Dios River. One of the tributary rivers is Tuichi River in the Madidi National Park. Tuichi River joins the Beni River upstream from the town Rurrenabaque. South of Rurrenabaque, Río Beni runs through the rainforest. 30 km before joining the Mamoré River at the Bolivia-Brazil border, the rapids of Cachuela Esperanza interrupt the upstream navigability of the river.
Famous quotes containing the word river:
“The mountain may be approached more easily and directly on horseback and on foot from the northeast side, by the Aroostook road, and the Wassataquoik River; but in that case you see much less of the wilderness, none of the glorious river and lake scenery, and have no experience of the batteau and the boatmans life.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
