Bell Metal

Bell metal is a hard alloy used for making bells. It is a form of bronze, usually approximately 4:1 ratio of copper to tin (78% copper, 22% tin). Bell metal ore is a sulfide of tin, copper, and iron called stannite.

Famous quotes containing the words bell and/or metal:

I was thinking of a son.
The womb is not a clock
    nor a bell tolling,
but in the eleventh month of its life
    I feel the November
of the body as well as of the calendar.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

We are supposed to be the children of Seth; but Seth is too much of an effete nonentity to deserve ancestral regard. No, we are the sons of Cain, and with violence can be associated the attacks on sound, stone, wood and metal that produced civilisation.
    Anthony Burgess (b. 1917)
