Belarusian Association of Journalists

The Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) is a Belarusian non-governmental organisation aimed at ensuring freedom of speech and rights of receiving and distributing information and promoting professional standards of journalism" .

It was founded in 1995. BAJ is an affiliate of the International Federation of Journalists and a partner of Reporters Without Borders.

In 2002, BAJ was honoured with the World Association of Newspapers' Golden Pen of Freedom Award. In 2004, it received the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize. The Atlantic Council Freedom Award was presented to BAJ by the Atlantic Council in June 2011.

BAJ has been constantly monitoring violations of freedom of expression and freedom of the media since 1998.

BAJ has been publishing a professional magazine “Abajour” since 2000.
