Beat Farmers - Death of Country Dick

Death of Country Dick

On November 8, 1995, Country Dick Montana died of a heart attack while performing The Girl I Almost Married, three songs into the set at the Long Horn Club in Whistler, British Columbia. The remaining Beat Farmers decided to dissolve the band three days later.

In 1996, Bar None Records of Hoboken, N.J posthumously released The Devil Lied to Me, the Country Dick Montana solo album. The performers included members of the Farmers, Katy Moffatt, Rosie Flores, Nixon, and Alvin. The "fiery collection of roots rock, balls-out country, and hilarious snippets from Country Dick's twisted subconscious" included King of the Hobos, Dave Alvin's Rich Man's Town, Paul Kamanski's Indigo Rider, a cover of Tom Petty's Listen to Her Heart.

Famous quotes containing the words death, country and/or dick:

    For, surely, surely, where
    Your voice and graces are,
Nothing of death can any feel or know.
    Walter Savage Landor (1775–1864)

July 4. Statistics show that we lose more fools on this day than in all the other days of the year put together. This proves, by the number left in stock, that one Fourth of July per year is now inadequate, the country has grown so.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

Drug misuse is not a disease, it is a decision, like the decision to step out in front of a moving car. You would call that not a disease but an error of judgment.
    —Philip K. Dick (1928–1982)
