Famous quotes containing the word audience:
“When a subject is highly controversial ... one cannot hope to tell the truth. One can only show how one came to hold whatever opinion one does hold. One can only give ones audience the chance of drawing their own conclusions as they observe the limitations, the prejudices, the idiosyncrasies of the speaker.”
—Virginia Woolf (18821941)
“The function of the actor is to make the audience imagine for the moment that real things are happening to real people.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
“An audience is never wrong. An individual member of it may be an imbecile, but a thousand imbeciles together in the darkthat is critical genius.”
—Billy Wilder (b. 1906)
