BBC South East is the BBC English Region serving East Sussex, Kent, Brighton & Hove and parts of Surrey and West Sussex.
The BBC region was created in September 2001 by the joining of the Heathfield transmitter (formerly part of the BBC South region) with the Bluebell Hill and Dover transmitters (from the former BBC London and South East region) to form a new regional TV service. Unlike ITV Meridian, it does not serve South Essex (received from a Bluebell Hill overlap), this area being part of the BBC London region instead.
Famous quotes containing the words bbc, south and/or east:
“To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a computer.”
—Anonymous. quoted in Quote Unquote, Feb. 22, 1982, BBC Radio 4.
“Even when seen from near, the olive shows
A hue of far away. Perhaps for this
The dove brought olive back, a tree which grows
Unearthly pale, which ever dims and dries,
And whose great thirst, exceeding all excess,
Teaches the South it is not paradise.”
—Richard Wilbur (b. 1921)
“The very nursery tales of this generation were the nursery tales of primeval races. They migrate from east to west, and again from west to east; now expanded into the tale divine of bards, now shrunk into a popular rhyme.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
