Bayside Shopping Centre - History

History

Bayside shopping centre, which was formally known as Frankston Town Centre, originally consisted of three shopping centres: Bayside, Balmoral and Quayside. The Bayside part of the shopping centre opened in 1972 with 52 specialty stores, including a Myer Department store and a Ritchies Supermarket. Balmoral Shopping centre opened a year later with 19 stores. Quayside finally opened in 1991 with 72 specialty stores, a Coles Supermarket and a Target Discount Department store.

The centre has remained the largest shopping centre on the Mornington Peninsula, due to large redevelopments. Bayside Shopping Centre's main local rivals are Centro Karingal and Frankston Power Centre, both located less than 5 kilometres from the centre.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

One classic American landscape haunts all of American literature. It is a picture of Eden, perceived at the instant of history when corruption has just begun to set in. The serpent has shown his scaly head in the undergrowth. The apple gleams on the tree. The old drama of the Fall is ready to start all over again.
    Jonathan Raban (b. 1942)

Books of natural history aim commonly to be hasty schedules, or inventories of God’s property, by some clerk. They do not in the least teach the divine view of nature, but the popular view, or rather the popular method of studying nature, and make haste to conduct the persevering pupil only into that dilemma where the professors always dwell.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

History takes time.... History makes memory.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)
