The city is divided into 3 subdistricts (kecamatan): Batu, Bumiaji, and Junrejo. The subdistricts are further divided into 24 villages (kelurahan).

Batu is well known by its tourism. Some of the tourist spots are:
- Cuban Rondo: waterfall
- Jatim Park (Jawa Timur Park): a place for learning and playing.
