Aftermath
Successful British operations concluded on 28 September with the capture of a large portion of the Schwaben Redoubt, north of Thiepval, another first day objective that had been the site of fierce fighting by the 36th (Ulster) Division. It was not until the next phase of fighting, the Battle of the Ancre Heights, which began on 1 October, that the final 'mopping up' of the Battle of Thiepval took place. On the 14th of October the rest of the stronghold fell into British hands as Schwaben Redoubt was captured. The Canadian Corps finally dispossessed the Germans of the heavily battered Regina Trench on the 11th of November.
